This LA Times piece argues that OBL is trying to remake himself as a statesman. It’s an interesting analysis that seems to tie together many of the issues myself and others have had with the tape. My once criticism is that the author talks about how Hezbollah, PLO, the IRA developed political wings. However, all also provided social services, which is what gave their political ideology cachet amongst the people they were attempting to represent. OBL has yet to do a positive thing for the Muslim community.

Ali Eteraz has a highly speculative piece up on the latest OBL video. I’m actually with him until he gets to the Bollywood part. I hope that there are professionals watching these videos and trying to figure out next moves, but even in the popular media and quick deconstruction like this would take a lot of air from AQ’s mission. Who are these people?
Anybody heard of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council? I haven’t. Most Muslim Ugandans I know haven’t. Thankfully, The Revealer caught them out as a being truly stupid. This is good news because now I know why my friends think their smart – they know stupider people :). (BTW, what they are being stupid about is what they claim has to do with “Islam.”)
