Well, a rather ambiguous title to your post. I heard the author of the piece on NPR, and his simplification of Islam — evident in Hamza’s take on things — still grates. On the whole, howeverm, I thought the article was well-balanced with Hamza’s own serenity in his Salafism, and the author’s occasional repulsion from fanaticism and Hamza himself. I do wish to point out that for people who ask stupid questions like whether Islam (on two legs and walking, I suppose) is compatible with America, the answer surely does not lie with Hamza Walker Lindh.
