You are voting for the people around him. I think it’s great that some people think they can have a beer with Bush or his cabinet. I could probably be friends with some of those people myself, if it wasn’t for the last 3.5 years. But to be honest, I don’t want any of my current friends as POTUS (sorry guys and gals). They are my friends because they are like me in at least certain respects. I want the POTUS to be better than me, to inspire me, to inspire the country, to make us better than we are. The current administration has not done that.

Follow the link to Krugman’s piece. Down the memory hole is right. As Krugman says, the period leading up to the Iraq war was indeed a radicalizing experience. I think there were plenty of people like me who had a degree of faith in elite opinion, in the sensible people in nice suits, which I never will again. And those people hate the dirty fucking hippies more than ever for the simple crime of being correct. [From Radicalizing]

Can Islam Change? I would have liked it better if he asked “Can Muslims Change,” but the points are still interesting. I am loving Bollywood Muslim. Great point! This election isn’t only about getting Bush out of the Whitehouse, it’s also about getting Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Wolfowitz and Rice out.
