Listen to the Reed
Rachel has a wonderful post on how the Divine is heard through Divine creation. It reminded of this poem of Rumi (posted many moons ago in a different context): بشنو از نى چون حكايت ميكند از جدائيها شكايت ميكند beshno az nay con hekaayat mekonad az judaa’ihaa shekaayat mekonad listen to the reed as it tells a tale as it complains of separation How beautiful is the image of humanity simply being instruments for the Divine sound? The Seeker: Let Muhammad Ali, not bin Laden, represent Islam in America
The Seeker: Let Muhammad Ali, not bin Laden, represent Islam in America. Osama bin Laden was an absolute embarrassment to all decent Muslims. People like Muhammad Ali (a great warrior during his time) promote Islam as a respectable religion of peace. This was a common representation before the atrocities of 9/11. Since then blood, savagery and ignorance has tarnished the image.

Props to the Tikkun folks for recognizing you, Shahed, Aziz, and others — I’m happy to see that post!
btw, did I tell you I’ll be attending a 3-day retreat in August for rabbinic students and Muslim students? I’m incredibly excited, both about the text study and formal learning and about meeting the other people who choose to attend such a retreat. Should be grand.
