As you all know, next weekend is the Progressive Faith Blog Con. I’ll be there, and I hope to you meet you there as well. This weekend, I’m in Copenhagen for a conference called Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow (although they don’t have a website today). The press release is here. Mine’s bigger than yours

I saw this article on the murder of Shi’ah in Karachi a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t want to do another article on Muslim-on-Muslim violence; they weren’t anything new. Last night, I had a conversation with a friend and something occurred to me: Pakistan is a Muslim country, at least 99% of the population is Muslim. There are some Christians, and the Ahmadis (different post) were declared non-Muslim, otherwise the assumption is that everyone in Pakistan is a Muslim. Bernard Lewis answers 7 Questions

I have to say, it has been quite some time since I agreed with Bernard Lewis. However, I find myself nodding along with 6 of his 7 answers. Answer to Question 6 is a standard neocon answer and really ignores the broad scope of history that he seems to arguing from everywhere else. For Ottomanist – he’s not an Arabist nor an Islamicist – I’m surprised he doesn’t mention modern Turkey as a democratic state. Bernard Lewis
