Yusuf that is. Yusuf Islam decides that music and Islam are not incompatible. Welcome to 1400 hundred years of history and tradition. Hopefully this will signal a change and maturation in Mr. Islam’s faith. I’m still working on my long post on Islam and music. I’m sure I’ll get to it soon. Link via Maryam.

Book Review: “Muslim Women in America”
Not my review, and the only reason I highlight this review is because the reviewer gets it: The authors admit that their book “concentrates primarily on Muslim women who are actively affirming Islam.” Skeptics, doubters and agnostics are scarcely acknowledged (Irshad Manji, the controversial author of the important work The Trouble With Islam, is disposed of in a paragraph). The book’s unstated focus is Sunni Islam and the (African-American) Nation of Islam. Little attention is paid to women’s experiences in Ahmadiyyah, Ismaili Shia or Twelver Shia communities—all of which are thriving in the United States. (The Islamic scholar Linda Walbridge’s…
Tweeting the Qur’an #Quran #Ramadan #ttQuran 2017/1438
Traditionally, Muslims read the Qur'an in its entirety over this time, in a section a day. The Qur'an is split into thirty sections, called juz', and one section is read each night. This news makes me very happy! I’ve always liked his music and though I do not think that Indian Ocean is one of his better songs, I bought it out of curiosity and for the charitable contribution it makes. The link between water and his development is interesting to me as well – near drowning prior to conversion and tsunami prior to commercial rerelease (technically earlier). You can get the lyrics from http://yusufislam.org.uk/ if you’re interested.
