Tonight, Aug. 21, 2009, is the first night of Ramadan 1430. I suggested that we Tweet the Qur’an during this time, with the tag #Quran. Since then, Aziz picked up the idea at City of Brass, Gary Bunt mentioned it on Virtually Islamic, and there was a mention in an article from Canada. There has been huge interest on Twitter, and I hope people will take part. Any event usually begins with the first chapter of the Qur’an, al-Fatiha, in its entirety. Rather than Tweet it, I thought I would put it here. In the Name of God, The Most…
Just posting it because it’s of intellectual interest. Take it or leave it. But the most difficult challenge — both to grasp and to solve — of the cloud is its effect on our freedom to innovate. The crucial legacy of the personal computer is that anyone can write code for it and give or sell that code to you — and the vendors of the PC and its operating system have no more to say about it than your phone company does about which answering machine you decide to buy. Microsoft might want you to run Word and Internet…

I would like to direct your attention to the Cordoba Initiative. Although their tagline “Improving Muslim-West Relations” would have you think that they are unaware of the last generation of civilizational debates and identity politics, they actually show a lot of potential. There are some good people working there and their contacts are deep. Poke around, have fun, and tell them to change their tagline. The best part is that they promise to be a media portal. If they would only supply donuts, I would be truly happy.
Tabsir points out an article about New Age Islam, a site that challenges ideologic interpretations of Islam.
Herdict is live. What is Herdict you ask? Why, it is the verdict of the herd! It’s a crowd sourced tool for determining if a site is being censored. Their official statement is: Have you ever come across a web site that you could not access and wondered,”Am I the only one?” Herdict Web aggregates reports of inaccessible sites, allowing users to compare data to see if inaccessibility is a shared problem. By crowdsourcing data from around the world, we can document accessibility for any web site, anywhere. Check out the site. If you are a Firefox user, download the…
