I'll be speaking at BU's Pardee School with their Mizan Project in a conference called "Activism, Advocacy, and Scholarship on Islam in the Digital Realm: Prospects, Progress, and Challenges." My session is labeled "Wild Card," which suits me just fine.

MLT – Talent Bazaar and Knowledge Transfer

The Talent Bazaar was a time for individuals to share things that they do. Mostly it was a display of authored/edited books, catalogues of artists, and CDs. The obligatory range of pamphlets were present, as were free copies of Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet. I’ll talk more about some of the artists and musicians after the post on the Artists Panel. Are the Arts Essential?. Specialists will take the customary deliberations about arts and culture into new, substantive, and shaping discussion. Beyond “leisure” or “entertainment,” beyond art’s personal impacts, beyond contributions to tourism, community building, or the classroom, do the arts and culture power progress? This convening will ask if (and how) the arts provide structures and strategies for social change, how they help define peoples and nations, how they deal with actual matters of life and death.
