Read Jeff Sharlet. His take on “facts” in this administration simply states the obvious. It’s the religious that gets to you.

Torturing America
Via Juan Cole, it seems that we’ve been holding innocent people and torturing them for fun. CNN is reporting from a different source that torture is being carried out by us. I say “we” because we are all complicit in this act. As Americans we should be holding ourselves to a higher standard, and demand that our representatives hold themselves to an even higher standard than that. Everywhere we turn we see how deep the wrong-doing done in our name has spread. We deny the truth, just as our representatives do. Every time one of these people is flogged, our…
Religious Pop Art
Yousuf Saeed has posted a web page of his work on Islamic[ate] pop art in South Asia. He’s got a really good write-up with fantastic examples. Spend some time poke around. It’s an interesting discussion about the localization of universal aspects of Islam to a new cultural reality. I think you underestimate the theocratic ramifications of the fundamentalism that Sharlet writes about.
Here’s a link that gives some background on the Christian Reconstructionism that is influencing the American religious right.
You can find a lot more information on the Talk to Action website.
I’m always struck by the “family resemblances” between fundamentalisms, here Christian Reconstructionism and our own, benighted jihadism.
